Another girly girl

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

For a possible commission I have going right now with a lovely Voguette :-D

Only a quick sketch and colour in Photoshop. I like this pose but the face definitely needs some work. I might refine it later. See how things go.

Its kinda cool keeping the original sketch visible. Also playing with layer blending modes in PS. It’ll take me a while to get the hang of that. I understand them for work purposes but somehow it doesn’t translate so well into my more traditional art. I find it really hard to move away from a very natural media style of drawing….just layering colours from light to dark. With digital you can do whatever you want and I’m still struggling with that!

Anyways – I got my hair coloured again yesterday. So its back to the vibrant red. Yays.
Other super news – NEXT WEEK THE BRACES COME OFF!! Holy moly! Sooooo excited!!

Well, better get to bed!

Character of the Week for ConceptArt.org – Steampunk Harem

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Quick late night posting today…..

I just squeezed an entry for ConceptArt.org CHOW this week…the topic was Steampunk Harem. Mixing two conflicting styles. Ripper topic! So many entries. And I bit off WAY more than I could chew! The way I envisioned this was so different. I’ve learnt a lot from this exercise…mostly to plan even the tiniest details from the beginning. I wish I had more time…but I’m thoroughly over this…but I like one of my original sketches, so I might paint that in PS just for play and to see how I go.

Hope you like! Even though I am very MEH about it.

Finished Rizzo

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Yay!
Just in time too. I hope it is what was expected :-) I’m quite happy with it too. Could have polished it a bit more but just didn’t have time.

No time to chat today! Gotta work on that harem girl.

A new drawing. Finished too!! Omg

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Hi All!
Having a great Sunday? The weather is perfect here in Melbourne – not too hot with a nice cool breeze.
Me and Jonny went to the annual Volkswagon meetup out in Cranbourne. It’s been 60 years since they made the first Kombi so there was a whole cavalcade of them from each year of production. Cool as! We also saw a whole tonne of Bugs and quite a few Type 3′s. Not very many Fastbacks like ours which is a good thing I think – our little car is quite unique! Jonny is full of ideas of what to do with it now. Yay!

So…back to drawing stuff. The last couple of days I’ve been working on this. Referenced from a photo – but she doesn’t really look like the girl in the photo – which I’m okay with. Trying out digital painting in Photoshop and only doing tonal values (black & white). I’m getting the hang of working in PS and may be even preferring it over Painter right now. Crazy huh! Hehe. This took a total of about 3 or 4 hours….lost count after the first hour :-D
I could have worked it a LOT more but thought I should leave it before I overdo it. Kinda like the roughness anyway.
As you can see in the work-in-progress (WIP) pics, I changed her proportions a bit….as I was going along I noticed more things that were a bit out of place.

A weekend’s work plus sketch.

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

For ConceptArt.org’s annual Self Portrait Day which was yesterday (November 1st) – This is the sketch and final piece. I think I like the sketch better actually. Didn’t have a lot of time for this one cos I only found the thread late in the day.

Before:
self-portrait
(do you think this is better?)

After: (and smaller too – meh)
Self portrait

Today’s drawing:
daily sketch - no reference
I was trying to draw noses. Think it turned out okay.

Sooooo – its Melbourne Cup this week. Got tomorrow off. Even though I had to work today. It was pretty busy at work despite there not being anyone there. So I got a bit done!
Tomorrow I will be hitting PoseManiacs and trying to draw some figures. Also might try and knock out Lorraine’s drawing AND work on the tattoo of Rizzo. Gonna be a nice quiet day inside DRAWING. Woo!

Other news – planted two of my little tomatoes today in their pots. Hopefully they start growing heaps soon. Yay! Just have to get some more potting mix for the rest of them.

Also – had our first dinner party sort of thing on Saturday which went swimmingly. ;-) I made little sandwiches filled with thinly sliced cucumber, mayonnaise, sour cream and dill. As well as cherry tomato, bocconcini and homemade pesto on crackers for entrees. Then the main course was roast pumpkin and feta risotto with thyme and toasted pinenuts. Phew! It was a winning combination and I was pleased with the results. Dessert was brought by our lovely guest -  lemon pots…basically a lemon egg custard baked in a water bath. So simple but DAMN they were awesome!

That’s all the news I got for now! Byeeee :-D

Studies in digital painting…

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

This is the cucumber I’ve been drawing the past couple of days. Well – I did it in 2 sessions. The first one was about 2 hours and then another hour or so to finish. It’s not exactly like the reference I know – but I kind of like it different.
Slowly getting the hang of painting in PS!

Cucumber study

Lots more stuff planned too. I’ve got work tomorrow but I plan to spend all of Tuesday drawing. Yippeee!
Hope you’ve all had a super excellent weekend so far!

Drawing cherries

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

What’s this?? Two posts in two days? Omg! Heh. Only a quick one today. My train sketches were seriously dodgy and not really worth showing. Meh. Having a bit of a flat day actually. Think I’m tired. Fire up tomorrow yah!!

This was done using a photo as reference. Fun. Took an hour or so. Slowly getting the hang of painting in Photoshop. Now I have to try something bigger. Or draw from life. I left my initial pallette on there so you can see where I started.
