Goin’ away

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Just a quick post today to tell you all I’ll be away for the rest of this week.

It’s the boyfriend’s big Three Oh and we’re headin out West in a camper. Who knows where we’ll end up – I’m leavin the drivin’ and the decisions to him and enjoying the ride. :-D He also instructed me to ditch the vintage in favour of cargo pants and tshirts…Ah well, who can say no to the birthday boy? It will be more practical anyway so I’m actually looking forward to not having to put on makeup every day and stressing too much about which dress to wear. There’s a certain freedom in such restrictions eh ;-)

A quirky feature of the trip is we have a list of challenges to complete. We haven’t finalised them as yet but all our good friends helped with suggestions via Facebook (thanks guys!!). I’ll do a post of everything when we get back, and best to show the intended list and completed list after the fact, no? In truth, I’m too lazy to write it all out now heheh.

So no drawings til then I’m afraid!! :-D I should take the sketchbook huh? Or maybe the camera will be enough. Let’s see if the break releases some new creative thoughts.

And cos I always want to leave you with something – here’s the bf himself helping out with the reflector (on a cloudy day!) – this was the other week where I dressed up in my friend Sal’s Mum’s wedding dress and they all took photos of me. Yay (such a narcissist)! Thanks to Dave for the photo (hope you don’t mind me using it!!). Dumb faces all round ;-)

Ciao!

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week stuff..

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Okay so I’ve been gone a while…and still don’t have much content for you….

But my big news from the other day was that I was going to take part in Melbourne Spring Fashion Week as a model for Super Kawaii Mama’s Vintage Glamour presentations. Woo, what a mouthful! But WOW was it fun! Not too many photos as yet so I’ll wait to post the big write-up when we all get the professional pics through.

More info (and a much better & more timely post than this) over at Super Kawaii Mama :-)

Should be able to FINALLY finish the drawing I’m working on tomorrow so YES, I will have some art up here eventually. Raaar I SUCK!!

(Late) sketches and vintage blogger meet

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Hiiii!!

Today I have for you a little something different from the usual….But first some sketches.
random 12th march
Just a few things from the train. Nothing exciting. CHOW post for you all tomorrow though once again I’m severely underwhelmed by my effort. Meh.

Onto the fun stuff…..
Yesterday (being Sunday) I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with the finest of Melbourne’s vintage bloggers. We enjoyed a very fancy pants (my current favourite phrase so excuse me hehe) high tea at the Park Hyatt hotel. It was all very plush and the food on offer was scrumptious. There was plenty of it too, I didn’t leave feeling hungry that’s for sure. Everyone’s outfits were simply incredible – Almost all of us wore dresses and there was pretty much an entire rainbow of colours. Yay! I was in serious hair envy of the ladies who have the skillz to create wicked curls and whatnot. Awesome.
Since I am a pretty lame blogger when it comes to photos, only one pic is deemed worthy of showing to the public – and I didn’t even take it!

high tea
From left to right: Me, Marianne @ Esme and the Laneway, Carly (new employee at Circa Vintage and a teacher at the Lindy Charm School), Julie from Ballarat Vintage Style, Claire from HarbourMaster, Maria from Vintage Suburbia, Super Kawaii Mama, Nicole from Circa Vintage, Fiona (burlesque performer and employee at Circa) and Jules from Poppet Vintage.

A HUGE thanks to Nicole for organising the meet and Marianne who’s idea it was I think (though it could have been a joint effort). I have a whole heap of new blogs to add to my reader and I look forward to more meets in the future. Yay!

Signing off til tomorrow….Bye peeps!

Latest work & a blogger meet

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Hiiii!!
Finally I think I can show you this! I’ve been working on this for a lovely client and while it has gone through a COMPLETE redesign I think it has turned out well. The redesign being completely my own idea. It’s totally not ‘standard procedure’ to completely start again and do something entirely new for a customer when they haven’t suggested it – but in this case I wasn’t overly happy with the way the other drawing was going and some random sketching brought about a new look which we now both agree looks better.
This is for her business card as she is a makeup artist and wanted a pretty girl with some flowing hair and makeup on.
I had a lot of fun doing the hair and thankfully my other client also specified flowing hair – YAY. So much fun I am going to get cracking and finish that one off too.

some work for client

Other news….I just got back from a fantastic afternoon tea with some awesome bloggers…Get ready for the link love…I got to meet: Violet LeBeaux and her beau Jimmy, Super Kawaii Mama (squee! Starstruck!), Esme & the Laneway (omg too!), Nicole from Circa Vintage, Celeste (she has many many blogs!) and Natalie/Briar Rose. We went to the Cristina Re Where a Girl Goes store in Collingwood where we indulged in delicious sandwiches, quiche, macarons, cupcakes and chocolates. Oh, and TEA of course. Even though I’m not normally a tea drinker, I really enjoyed the different varieties they had on offer. Yum!!

Everything in that store is so ridiculously awesome and they even gave us some gift bags to take away with us. They have a bunch of pretty papers in them which I think I might use in some drawings. Yay! Everyone was dressed so impeccably too and the company was just fabulous. I shall have some photos for you in a future post.

Right now I have to get back to finishing a ConceptArt.org CHOW entry I started. The theme is The Magus…This is the brief:

The Magus

London, England 1907. Cyril Grey is the leader of the ‘Order of Shining Starres’, an occult organisation that aims to become the most dominant in Britain. Grey has access to some of the darkest forces of the astral realm, and demands complete devotion from his acolytes. He is a man obsessed and committed to the promulgation of his black bible, the Book of Regulation, or Liber Ordinatio said to have been dictated to him by a messenger from the gods that provided to him his magical motto, Sit Vis Vobiscum. He has inherited wealth, independence, and apparent youth; appearing little over 35. But there is talk that he is older and uses a ‘glamour’ to fool his followers. There is also talk of the wealth running out, and debts beginning to mount up; of pretenders to his position, and of… murder. Dark murder, as prominent figures in the occult underworld start to… go missing…

Design Grey in his ceremonial robes of office. Consider the historical period (Edwardian) and setting. Also consider his apparent age and powerful persona, and try to present that in your design.

Interesting! I stared it on a whim – just from a sketch of his face….which turned out alright. Hopefully things keep running smoothly and I can finish on time and still like the drawings. Expect more soon! :-D

Ciao!

Non-drawing related purchases

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Sorry for the lack of arty posting lately. Been feeling in a bit of a slump. Still sketching daily but kinda not feelin it. However, I’ve got two client projects on the go which aren’t problematic at all which is excellent.
I think I have worked myself into a “MUST BUY NEW COMPUTER” mode and so trying to do anything on my clunky old laptop is getting me frustrated. I am entirely sure it’s just an excuse as I am known to do that. What for I know, it’s not like it’s benefiting me in any way to be always making excuses! TERRIBLE. But identifying the problem is only halfway (only a quarter even) there.
Soooo, even just writing this out is motivating me to get off my butt and back into it. Browsing the talent on ConceptArt always helps too.

But since I have nothing worth scanning at the moment, I shall show you some purchases instead. It was payday not long ago and of course I have a massive list of favourites on Etsy which I’m always itching to lay my hands on.
These are the items winging their way over to me from the US.

A stunning 50′s/60′s wool suit. Cos I don’t have a suit yet and this is so pretty and looks like a fabulous cut.

A navy vintage hat. I don’t wear hats generally and this is a good price and versatile colour so that I don’t feel too bad if it doesn’t look good on me. There are SO many beautiful hats on Etsy!

And finally, another dress….cos a girl can never have enough dresses. The colours are cute and summery and looks flattering. Thankfully I’ve gotten quite good at being able to judge what will fit me well without needing to try something on. There hasn’t been one online purchase I’ve made that doesn’t fit me.

I can’t wait til they all arrive! Cue postie stalking….NOW!

;-)

A non-drawing related post.

Let’s talk about (and perve on) SHOES.

Check out these babies!!!!!!! I don’t usually spend my last cent on frivoulous purchases. Really.
But this time I just *had* to have them.
Just look at them. The brightest shade of electric blue. Pretty sequins. Flowers. The cutest rounded toe. The right height with a perfect, not-too-skinny heel. Soft suede. Plush pink velvet interior. *sigh*
And all for $100 including postage. Yay!
From Schuh in the UK. They arrived in less than a week too.
