I won this…

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Hi All!
Quickie post today!

I’m all sorts of busy making a dress right about now which is very close to done. You might see it next week. Super happy with the fit of it so far and I’m mega keen to make more versions of it. I’ve got so much planned for the next couple of weeks!

Anyways….what I’m showing you today is something I won a little while back. Debi from My Happy Sewing Place had a comp on her blog where you could win a $50 voucher at The Paraders Vintage. Which I won. Heh. This is what I chose out of the many wonderful things to pick from.

tapestry_bag_web

I’m thinking it’s from the 50′s or 60′s – I can’t remember what it was on the listing…and it’s a very fine example of a tapestry bag…..something I’ve been wanting for a while. They can range from the exquisite to the hideous depending on your personal taste. Some people’s personal taste being that they are ALL hideous no doubt ;-)
I particularly like this one because the colours are lovely and muted and the lucite bar and metal trim at the top is really neat. It’s in very good condition and quite roomy for a vintage bag so I’m super happy it’s mine!

Well that’s all for today. More next week :-)

Shoes for Sale and some other things

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Hi Everyone!
A bit of an all over the place post today. First up, I’ve currently got an auction up on eBay for some gorgeous shoes I bought off ASOS. They are so pretty but unfortunately way too small for my feets! I bought a UK4 which usually means a Euro 37 but these are a full size too small. So I would say if you’ve got a 36 foot, AU6 or UK3, these should fit. They’re brand new, never worn and still in their box. Happy to ship international, just ask me and I’ll get a proper quote for your location. They’re currently sold out in this size on ASOS and you will be getting them cheaper even with the Buy It Now option :-)

CLICK HERE for the auction :-D

Also – I now have a Facebook page! It took me quite a while to jump on that bandwagon because I usually keep Facebook for private stuff. But click on over and press LIKE for me :-) There’s a bunch of buttons to get you there in my sidebar or just click HERE

You may have noticed I’ve tidied up my blog a bit. I also figured out how to add custom fonts so I’ve changed my post titles. And remember how a while ago I told you I’d won a years subscription with the BaseKit website builder? Well I’ve set up the very  beginnings of my site (finally). It’s still not finished but I’ll show you when it’s done. It took me a little while to figure it all out but I’ve got the hang of it now. My only problem with using Basekit is that I am limited to standard fonts and I can only use Google Analytics for my tracking which I don’t like very much, preferring Woopra. I know the idea is to get away from any kind of code but IMHO you do need to access a little of it, as annoying as it may be. Maybe one day I will learn how to make a proper website. Hmm.

Other news – I got my scooter license!! YAY! The two day course was quite intense. Going from Zero driving knowledge to being allowed out on the roads in two days is pretty full on. The instructors at HART were really excellent and taught us really well. I’m kinda proud of myself for passing because only 8 out of 12 made it, and I was the only one who didn’t already have a car license.  I brought my scooter home on Friday – it was nerve-wracking driving home from the city let me tell you! Not to mention my 200cc Vespa is a LOT bigger and heavier than the itty bitty 50cc scoot I did the course on. The advantages are that it’s not as battered and the weight of it means it handles better through corners and driving slowly. After scaring the people working at a prestige car dealership in the back streets of North Melbourne (I was hooning around the car-park getting used to my new ride), we went out on a longer ride on Saturday. All the way down to St Kilda via Williamstown, then South Yarra (Chapel St!), Richmond, the city then home. Now I love it and I’m not scared as much anymore hehe. It will no doubt take a while not to be a danger on the roads (oh dear) but it sure is a lot of fun having a scooter!
However, today we ran into a dilemma. I was all set to head down the beach and go for a nice long ride….buuuuttttt……when I started her up – she started leaking LOTS of fuel!!! Omg! Not really prepared for all this mechanical bizzo. Dammit! So now she has to go back to the dealer and hopefully they can fix it. I mean….that kinda really sucks. I hope I haven’t bought a dud. Eep. I think something must be loose along the fuel line somewhere. It was only in for service last week.

Ummm that’s about all for now. I’ll be posting some sewing stuff soon and hopefully do some drawing too. It’s really hard to get motivated this time of year. Not sure what it is. Does anyone else fall into a bit of a creative slump around the end of year holidays???

Ciao!!

A Vintage Wedding Shoot…

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Hi Everyone!!
You know how I was going on about that photo-shoot I did with my friend Sally the other week? Well I have some pics for you! This is not all of them – There are more coming soon but I wanted to show you anyway.
The picture formatting is a bit different from my usual so I’m sorry if it looks untidy. It doesn’t do Sal’s pics justice as much as looking at them on her SITE or her Facebook page.

As you can see, she’s quite a talent! The pics are fantastic and it was such a fun day. Her vision was clear from the get-go and she organised the whole thing fantastically. Having participated in quite a few photo-shoots I know how important it is to have an excellent relationship with your photographer. This is especially important for weddings!

My dress is also borrowed from Circa – How awesome is it! Totally a cupcake dress. I loved traipsing around in it all day :-D The location was amazing too – We went out to a 150 year old homestead in Inverleigh, the property of one of Sal’s friends’ parents. It was SO stunning – with views out towards Geelong and the coolest old brick barn. Not to mention our hosts were so lovely to let us use their property to take photos on!

Soooooo – that’s about all I’ve got to say…check out the piccies and follow the links to see more :-)

One last thing…If I could kindly ask no one to download these pics or use them without Sally’s express permission. It’s really important to respect the work that artists put into their projects and distributing without consent is very poor form.
I know my regular readers wouldn’t do such a thing ;-) So my note goes out to those that stumble here via Google or wherever and might not have considered the implications of stealing someone’s intellectual property.

And so I don’t leave on a down-note….I’ll mention that I’ve been super lucky with winning stuff off blogs lately! I won a $50 voucher from The Paraders Vintage via My Happy Sewing Place (Fashions from the Past). I’ll have some photos of what I chose with my voucher soon. :-)
Another winning was from Mel:Hot or Not – a La Madre Bakery sample pack with heaps of yummy shortbreads and things. I haven’t received that one yet but I’ll probably take photos before we nom the lot.

Well then – til soon….

I bought some goodies…

AND I’m back online!!! YAY!!

Sorry to all those who came to visit over the weekend to find that lovely “BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED” page. Oo-er!! I have it all sorted now and upgraded my plan so more people can visit my blog. I don’t know how I clocked so much over the past month, it hasn’t been a record month or anything and all my pics are hosted on Flickr so I don’t know what’s going on there. Nothing seems particularly fishy either. Kitty is rather hesitant to believe she is getting popular ;-P

Though I am thinking of changing my header so it includes all the sewing I’ve been doing lately! Ha!

Anyways, I came to talk about something else on Friday before I discovered I had no blog to talk on ;-)

On Friday I received this in the mail:
soap-cupcake-web

Does that look much like SOAP to you?? Well it is! So cute! My friend Kesenya has just started  Alice Jean’s Soda Pop Shop – where you can get your hands on these cupcake soaps as well as other tasty treat themed body products. She also has cute baby gear AND you can hire her seriously awesome Pontiac 1951 Convertible. That car is CRAZY – such curves!

Now you know I’m not a spruiker, so it’s rare you see these features on my blog. But it’s different when it’s friends…and I’m all for supporting friends trying to make a living from their passion. It’s not too many people that get to do that, and it’s not an easy game to get into. Heck, it’s the story of my life – My parents have always been self employed. Yes I grew up with my mum and dad right there all the time – no babysitters or daycare for me – BUT, they worked their asses off for a pay-packet that was never regular. Some months we’d be rolling in it (figuratively!!) cos dad had just landed a big commission, but we never knew how long that cash was supposed to last. Banks want their mortgage payments on particular days – they don’t really care if you can’t make it one month. So yeh – tough game!

Ah I can ramble can’t I. What my point is – I want Alice Jean’s to thrive…and if I can help by posting on my blog about it, and buying soaps and all the other nice things, then I’m gonna do it ;-P

Cos buying soaps is such a chore ;-)

Teehee!

Of course I wanted to test out what I bought and I can confirm that these are great! My one smells like lavender and it has a great lather. It’s made from all natural products AND it’s local! Awesome. It’s almost good enough to eat. Seriously! I want to try every ‘flavour’ – and there’s plenty to choose from. Lucky there’s no kiddies in my house as I’m sure they’d want to nom them haha ;-)

Well I better stop rambling. I wish I was better at writing stuff I feel good about!

Other news: Since the blog was down I didn’t take any photos on the weekend. I’ve got SO much to show you! I finished the second pattern in THIS post. It was really easy and super quick to make. I’ve also got a skirt on the go – which used to be a dress but I kind of hate the bodice so I ditched that bit.
I haven’t started my drawing project yet – it’s been a bit of a weird week for motivation. AND it’s my last week at my current workplace. Minor panic setting in. Check back this time next week ;-)

On that note – seeyas!

I won stuff! Decor goodies! Plus Tassie stuffs

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Hi Everyone!
I’m back from Tassie! I had a grand time catching up with my parents and my friends down there. I also got to check out MONA which is all kinds of awesome. More on the trip later – First things first!

Just before I left, I heard from (Iron Chef) Shellie that I had won her Decor giveaway and the fancy resealable containers arrived on the day before I had to fly out. Now I don’t usually splurge on these kinds of things so winning some good quality stuff to put my lunch in was a big bonus. They totally kick ass over my cheap Ikea ones which are all warped from being nuked in the microwave one too many times.

Look at the goodies :-)

Now for some Tassie pics! These are from the Hipstamatic contingent of photos. :-D I’m not sure the ones on my proper camera will be any good so you may or may not see them on here. Do you want to see them?

Either way, I will upload them to my Flickr account soon when finish editing (argh!). I’ve got a squillion things to catch up here at home and still lots to do before Fiji – which is less than four weeks away. I need to get SEWING!

Vogue KK 2010 and a perfume obsession

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Hi!

Exciting day! I just picked up my Vogue Kris Kringle present for the year – weeeee I am so happy! I got utterly spoilt with a whole bunch of awesome stuff from lil-miss. :-) *squeeeee* THANK YOU if you’re reading!
Of course, I couldn’t wait to open it – bugger waiting til Christmas! Hehe.

For those not in the know – Each year the girls (and guys) on the Aussie Vogue forums do a KK. The lovely Purplewhiskers takes the time to organise the whole thing, collating the email forms we send her and passing on those details to a randomly picked forum member. Then we all go out and buy a present and send it off, while eagerly awaiting our own in the mail. I’ve always had fantastic presents and have been participating for about 3/4 years now. I looove shopping for my KK too – it’s never been difficult to buy a stranger a gift surprisingly.
Mine hasn’t been sent off yet – I have been truly behind. The present is all bought and wrapped I just need to go and deliver it.

Now what did I get? I would have been easy to buy for because my Etsy favourites list is immensely long and filled with heaps of items within budget. lil-miss got me exactly what I wanted.

Have a look at all the goodies:

A perfect skirt pattern! Woo! SO versatile.

vogue kk 2010-04

Yum smelling Lush stuffs. Soap and a bath bomb. They made the whole package smell awesome!

vogue kk 2010-03
Sewing bits and pieces like some nice hem facing, zips and lace trim. Some AMAZING buttons! They are so fabulous – perfect glass vintage ones from an Etsy seller I’ve been eyeing off for a while.  There are 15 – plenty for a dress or 2. Wow.

Also – she even considered my kitties! They each got a toy to play with which I just know they’re going to love. :-D

vogue kk 2010-05

This is the lot of it. So stoked!

vogue kk 2010-02

While I was at the post office I also picked up my latest fragrance purchase. I’ve wanted a bottle of Penhaligon’s anything for a long time and they finally had some stock on StrawberryNET – didn’t take me long to snap some up – for a supreme discount price of $53 including shipping. These are usually $120 or so in the boutiques here (not stocked at Myer etc). Unlike many of my previous perfume purchases from SN, I have sniffed this one before.  I’m very partial to soft florals and this really fits the bill.
And would you LOOK at the PACKAGING!!!

Web

So cute!! Smells divine too – bright and fresh on the opening and then dries down to a soft, delicately spicy warmth.

What I also have my eye on is Penhaligon’s Douro – which is actually a cologne but hey, I wear Bvlgari Pour Homme occasionally….anyway – its all lemony and soapy and incredible. But that’s on the longer wishlist along with Parfums de Nicolai – Sacrebleu and Comme des Garcons – Stephen Jones.

Can you tell I really love perfume??? ;-)

I’ll stop yabbering now. I actually have a drawing to work on. Spent 4 solid hours on it last night. We’ll see if I can squeeze out a repeat performance today but I’m pretty damn tired. Sooo – till then…

Ciao!
