Soooo flat stick this week. Early starts at work so I have NO time to do any of my own work.

But right now I’m doing a caricature of some of our NSW account managers. First time I’ve actually been able to draw in my own style at work. Yay!

I shall quickly post some of what I’ve been working on today. Shifty shifty. ;-) More to come :-D

A belated birthday present.

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

For my friend SJ – I am such a slackie friend…her birthday was on the 9th of Feb and it’s now more than a month later that I finish her present. The below picture is what SHE got ME. A gorgeous 50′s dress, vintage and handmade by the looks of it so definitely one of a kind! She’s such a generous person considering I have only known her for about 6 months and has already given me not one but three dresses. ‘Tis about time I returned the favour. Anyways….

Duh du duuuuuuuuhhhh I am revealing myself for the first official time on this blog. Eeep

SJs present2, originally uploaded by kittymeow84.

And this is my present. You may be familiar with these drawings but this is the first time they’ve been printed. We have a fancy Epson Stylus Pro 4880 at work so I did a shifty and printed out a copy of these.
They fit in the Ikea frames perfectly. Well, almost. I had to trim the card on the inside a bit. Yes yes I know, “IKEA? pfft” you say….well there’s nothing wrong with these frames!! Neat, modern and most importantly, SQUARE. I loooove squares!
I’ll be giving these to SJ tomorrow when I see her for Muay Thai. Hopefully she likes them!

…..you know how hard it is to take photos of glass (I know how you feel Mum!)

(((Don’t worry Lainey, I haven’t forgotten ’bout you either ;-P)))

Narrowing down the DareDevil

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Mum’s been on my back to finish the DareDevil label! ;-)
So I’ve narrowed it down to two and added the representation of the wax stamp that I reckon would look great on it (Wax seal template courtesy of Stock Exchange, modified by me).

My parent’s haven’t been using wax to seal the wine since they discovered Zorks, so they’ve got some of it still lying around the vineyard. All we need to buy is a stamp which can easily be found here in Melbourne.

Any more suggestions on how I can add extra dimension to they text??? I’m a little bit stuck on that right now.

As Promised..

Via a Twitter post – Here I am showing you my sketches from last night.

I wanted to practise how to do those really sultry looking girls with cute button noses and full lips. I can do eyes easy but noses are hard as they dont really have many hard lines to them. Its all soft shadows and tiny highlights.

Lips are a bit easier but to get them looking full and not too harsh it’s a bit more difficult.

I’m surprised at myself that the urge to pick up a pencil and actually draw by hand was so strong. I’m so enamoured by digital now that there were some frustrating moments last night where I thought “DAMMIT!! No Cmd-Z!”

I like the picture of the girl. Definitely will be practising more and I might complete her using digital of course.

My Moleskine is being put to use too finally! Haha. I have a Moleskine diary which has a lot of scribbles in it – Sitting at Journal having a coffee with the boyfriend is often condusive to scribbling. But the sketchbook until now did not have much in it. Thanks so much to the lovely Voguette who gave it to me as a KK present. <3

Surprise!!

This little baby is mine. All MINE!!! Mwahahahhahahaha ;-)

My wonderful birthday present – thanks mum and dad! Now I can start my own letterpress business down in Tassie when I get sick of the big smoke. Sure – it’s a pretty complicated beast…Lots for me to learn but my dad is a wonder with anything that you can do with your hands and knows machinery well. My boyfriend used to run flexo presses and I’m pretty well versed in the matters of pre-press.

Not sure of the year – its a late 60′s-something Heidelberg Original platen letterpress. It feeds it’s own paper so I don’t have such a risk of getting my hands flattened to a pulp. More on it later when I read the manual and the kind previous owner is happy to send me some of the stuff he has from back when he was at trade school. At the same school as me no less – Only RMIT teaches these sorts of things in Melbourne.

So now to get it shipped to the Apple Isle. Dad is taking care of that (thank you!!) and it will be delivered down there without too much hurry. YAY!!!

Mum had a pretty good feeling about finding a press without too much trouble and she was right. :-) ))

(edit: I’m using the photo from the original ebay listing. Just letting peeps know its not mine)

Progress!

I did some more on my model drawing today so I might as well show you all. Thinking the shirt will be the hardest but it’s coming along. I really need to find my Painter IX disk so I can install it on my work computer. Some things about Essentials are frustrating – like when I am blending on one layer it does not pick up the colour from the layer below/above…so the parts where I run out of colour on that layer start to blend with white. Annoying.
But I’m getting around it for now!
This took just over an hour. I did all of the shirt and darkened a significant portion of the blazer.

A preview…

Of the model drawing that’s been taking me some time. Because I’ve been caught up in many other things right now. Not only social commitments (damn you, friends! LOL kidding), and lots of work along with kickboxing classes and moving house.

Anyways
This is part of the model I have been drawing. Not finished….veeeerrrry far from finished. But I thought I would show you all a little preview. :-)
