CHOW 220 – Fantasy Pinup

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Hi Everyone!
This week I had all intentions of fixing up the drawing in the previous post. I also did a bunch of quick fashion sketches that I had plans on colouring.

But then I became aware of ConceptArt’s latest CHOW topic. Fantasy Pinup. Umm – could that have been any more perfect?? So of course I jumped on it. Actually fairly pleased with this one – It could have done with a bit more detail but overall, I think my CHOW entries have improved significantly :-D
This took me about 6 hours – maybe more? I used a ref for the pose. By Sunday, I was hungover from the night before so I was glad I’d pretty much finished it on Saturday.

So this week, I will finish the drawings I had planned on.
Also – I might head back to life drawing next Monday. :D

Ciao!

Quick figures

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Hiiiiiii!!
Lightning fast posting tonight….Just a few sketches I did on the weekend from “The Figure in Motion”. Retro 70′s nudes FTW lol!!

Excuse the really dodgy heads and clumsy shading.

Should bring some colour back into this little blog huh?
ConceptArt is up to its 200th CHOW which involves a month long contest with the theme “Monarch of CHOW”. We have to a depict a king or queen of a particular music genre. TOO MUCH FREEDOM. Soooo many ideas! I should start sketching soon. Need to think about this one a lot.

You know I haven’t even done anything digital for a few weeks now? Feels strange.
Life drawing last night was fantastic too – if a little messy. Silly me to wear a white top on the day we’re meant to colour in our entire page with BLACK charcoal. Messy messy. Will attempt to somehow capture my drawings with the camera. Dreading the thought.
Okie then seeyas!!

CHOW #196 – Wizard of OZ

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Hi!

All done for this week’s CHOW. I can’t believe I managed to go out Saturday, bum around Sunday, do life drawing today and STILL get this done. Awesome. Oh and I don’t hate it so much either. Omg.

Okay so it’s not fantastic but it’s better than most (all?) my other CHOW entries so I gotta be makin’ some progress. Plus this week’s theme was mega mega awesome.
So onto the drawings…

If you can’t tell – I decided to go with a whacked out junkie as my Dorothy. Tehehehehee. WHY? Cos I can. And you gotta think that whoever came up with the whole OZ thing had to be on something. I know it’s not the original but have you SEEN Return to Oz?? Cray-zee. The first one was bad enough.
Some progress pics (Click it to make it big if you so wish)….

And how was life drawing I hear you ask?? FAB. Loved it!! Much better than what I was expecting. I shall show you my results tomorrow and talk about it in more detail.
Until then – BYE!

CHOW #192 – Atlantian Anarchist

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Hello!

This week’s Character of the Week topic was “Atlantian anarchist”. Picture the idyllic Utopia that Atlantis is – Surely such perfection cannot last that long and there would be rebellion??

I started this with a much more basic pose as you can see in the work in progress pics…but the anatomy was all over the shop as I hadn’t used reference. So I quickly found some and created a more dynamic pose. However, as usual time constraints became the biggest issue. With a weekend full of high tea and seeing Alice in Wonderland, it didn’t leave all that much time for drawing. And I am mighty slack sometimes. I think the weekly format allows me to just get to that point of a piece where I’m sick of it – but not enough time to push through that phase. In all honesty I should try and work on it every night. Though I am learning a lot I think – getting used to not relying on line-work and getting the majority of the piece down in a short amount of time.
The next step is more forethought and planning. What to do when I get to the point where I hate it. Right now my solution is to get stuck into details – yet when you’ve not planned for just the right amount of detail then you’re left frustrated. Heh.
I should make more (mental) lists when it comes to art.
Anyway, enough jibber-jabber..on to the drawing.

Character of the Week – The Magus

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Sup!
So this is my entry for this past week’s CHOW – Brief for the project is in my last post (Just to confuse you!)….Overall, I’m pretty MEH about it. Didn’t have enough time to do what I want with it and I suffered from not thinking things through fully again.
I got some great tips from the ConceptArt peeps – Skip the backgrounds for now if you’re unsure about them and watch your values and anatomy. Yup yup got it :-D

Some art for a change…

Team CHOW is back in full swing. REALLY pushing it for time. A bit over ten days to pull two finished pieces out of my butt??? WORK HARD ESZ!!!

Not to mention my work for others which I am pottering away on.
Sooo here’s the run down of the last couple of days. I have been sketching quite a bit but today was the only day where I really got anywhere. First….what I started on the train. Wish they wouldn’t sway around so much – hard to keep the pencil straight when drawing tiny lines.

Sketch from a few days ago for one of my clients….For a blog header. Kinda happy with this. Just a matter of getting around to doing the digital.

And finally some tests for Team CHOW. The Star. Poses referenced from a book lent off my workmate (Hi – see I AM drawing!! ;-P) I like most of this ‘cept the head. Ugh. Kind of needs clothes too.
starpose

Take 2. Much better (though I did draw this first hehe). The arm is a bit short and the head too big I know shuddup. I kind of like big heads though hehehehe. Anyways….I’m thinkin Hippy Boho Chick for The Star cos it’s meant to represent Aquarius and we’re supposed to be pretty free spirited yada yada. I just like flowing stuff – hair, clothes, jewelry etc. Could definitely use this for the final.
Dreading trying to draw this digitally. If only I could find $3K lying around somewhere…..

That’s all for now. Better get back to finishing off my other commission. :-D

Sucky blogger is back

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Finally! I have something to show you. Yes – I’m back from my lazy hiatus. Picking up the drawing again.

This time it’s a sketch for ConceptArt’s Team CHOW competition…The theme is Tarot and you must team up with another person from the forums with 2 to 4 people per team. Then you pick two tarot cards to draw, one from the major arcana and one from the lesser. So my team is called “Oh Bother” and we’re a duo…my teammate is from the UK where our timezones are a bit more compatible. We picked The Star, The Empress as the major arcana and Two of Swords and King of Swords for the lesser. Yay! We’ve got all of January to work on them so busy busy. Slow start but kind of picking up now. Here is my initial sketch for The Star. Nothing too flash just trying to get my skills up to an acceptable level again.

Other news: We finally have some KITTIES!! I am officially a crazy cat lady now. Hehe. Last Sunday we went to the Lost Dogs Home and rescued two adult kitties.
Here is Boof:
boof
He is 3 years old and was in the shelter for quite a while. He’s the fluffiest cat I have EVER seen! Seriously! His tail is so floofy that when he walks, the hairs on it swoosh and sway in the breeze. Awww. And look at those eyes!

Jonny’s cat we’ve called Puss:
puss
She is one year old and much smaller than Boof. She’s uber-friendly and loves to get in your face for a pat. Literally! She will cram her head into your nose to get some pats. And she’s really spritely and active and cute.

So they’re our new babies. I am so happy to have kitties finally and happy that our landlords allow them. The good thing with adult cats is you don’t need to train them as they already know where to go. They are both so friendly too. Yay!

Anyways, back to regular posting from herein. And happy 2010! :-D
