Hi!
Yep – for the first time THIS YEAR I have some drawings for you……
My first Drawing Salon class was last night and it was awesome
I’m clearly a bit rusty but Angie taught us some cool techniques, the best one being how to ensure you don’t run out of room for your drawing on the page. Draw the feet in after you’ve positioned the head and torso – Der!!! It makes so much sense.
The proportions are so much easier to work out after that.
These two figures are a result of learning to draw a pose with weight evenly distributed and then without. Balance is crucial otherwise the figure looks like it will tip over.

I’ve still got a lot to learn about cleaning my lines up and not overworking it. Legs can be tricky too! Get them wrong and it’s so so bad – but if you get it right, it can make your illustration. Keep working ’til you have the skill to express form like Gianfranco Ferrè…Ha!!
Next week we’re learning faces!
On sewing news – still editing pics…I’ve been busy! Blog post for the amazing green polka dot dress coming soon.
Also – how cold is Melbourne right now? Brrr!! It’s been raining for the past two days and barely made it above 12C – my kinda weather!!
Till soon…

Hello
Down to the second last life drawing class (I think). Drapery was the subject this time and how we see the figure differently with clothes on. Drawing clothing can disguise the true form and it can be more difficult to draw ‘across the body’ like you would with a nude. Instead, you can fall into the trap of only drawing the outline which leaves things looking flat.
Warm ups….I think all the ones I scanned are about 30 seconds. Funnily enough, it feels better to use 30 seconds instead of 1 minute per pose for the warm up – gets you loosened up quicker. Our teacher likens these to stretching before going for a jog

The contour and the tone drawing. I did a blind contour this time – not looking at the page while you draw and not lifting your charcoal.

I did two drawings again for the final 20/20mins. The first one without any drapery and the second one with. Kinda stuffed up the arm on the first one….

So after tomorrow I think I have no more classes. I’ll need to get back into the self-direction. Get back into this digital stuff. I have a whole bunch of inspiration pics – and lots of ideas ready to go. Need to get off my ass and DO IT.
Bya!

Sorry for the lack of arty posting lately. Been feeling in a bit of a slump. Still sketching daily but kinda not feelin it. However, I’ve got two client projects on the go which aren’t problematic at all which is excellent.
I think I have worked myself into a “MUST BUY NEW COMPUTER” mode and so trying to do anything on my clunky old laptop is getting me frustrated. I am entirely sure it’s just an excuse as I am known to do that. What for I know, it’s not like it’s benefiting me in any way to be always making excuses! TERRIBLE. But identifying the problem is only halfway (only a quarter even) there.
Soooo, even just writing this out is motivating me to get off my butt and back into it. Browsing the talent on ConceptArt always helps too.
But since I have nothing worth scanning at the moment, I shall show you some purchases instead. It was payday not long ago and of course I have a massive list of favourites on Etsy which I’m always itching to lay my hands on.
These are the items winging their way over to me from the US.
A stunning 50′s/60′s wool suit. Cos I don’t have a suit yet and this is so pretty and looks like a fabulous cut.

A navy vintage hat. I don’t wear hats generally and this is a good price and versatile colour so that I don’t feel too bad if it doesn’t look good on me. There are SO many beautiful hats on Etsy!

And finally, another dress….cos a girl can never have enough dresses. The colours are cute and summery and looks flattering. Thankfully I’ve gotten quite good at being able to judge what will fit me well without needing to try something on. There hasn’t been one online purchase I’ve made that doesn’t fit me.

I can’t wait til they all arrive! Cue postie stalking….NOW!
Ciao!
