Simple comp WINNERS!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Hi All!
Hope you all had a happy Easter! I gorged on lots of food. Not much chocolate though surprisingly. I’m probably the biggest anti-traditionalist you’ll ever meet, so the standard “family” holidays aren’t my bag. Especially since I’m an “orphan” in that my folks live interstate. And so do my boyfriend’s folks.  So while most people chow down at family lunches around these times of year, I’m hanging out with friends or just The BF – which is awesome.
Family is great – and mine are particularly cool, but I never had the whole extended family thing – cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, you-know-the-drill, being an immigrant and all (does anyone else think that’s a funny word?)…so all my life the holiday seasons have been enjoyed with the special family you choose, friends! Yay!

ANYWAY – Onto the draw. I didn’t get many entries, and that’s okay! Means better chances to WIN. So thanks to Random.org I got these results:

Those winners are:

Lorraine

and

nightowl_72

I will try and track down emails for you guys tomorrow, but if you want to speedy the process you can email me at kittysdrawings (at) gmail (dot) com – send me your address and I will post out the prizes ASAP. Yay!

Other things: I’ve been doing some sewing. Still mega behind on showing you my finished projects! I whipped up a gathered skirt yesterday which in terms of sewing skillz, is actually neatly done…BUT – I don’t think I like the style that much. It may have been the top I was trying it on with….Regardless, its casual and comfy enough for the Esz Resort Collection (teehee).
Two patterns also arrived today which will become part of the Collection, and I’ve started cutting one already. It’s a 50′s wrap dress which doesn’t look that tricky but there’s lots of pieces and lots of facings so it might take me a while.
I also finished a simple light purple round neck blouse. It’s quite nice…..but….I dont think I’ve got anything to match with purple yet. Must remedy that.

SO MUCH TO DO!
Ack! Better get back to it.

Hi All

Okay so here is my mini giveaway.

  • Eye Make-Up remover 50ml
  • Hydrating Light Moisturiser 50ml

Yay!
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment.

  • One entry per person.
  • If you share on Facebook or Twitter, leave me an extra comment with a link to your post and you get an extra entry.
  • Open to Aussie residents only :-D

So…whats the story? I’ve always done market research type things cos I love blabbering about stuff and getting paid for it. Or getting free stuff. I signed up for this promo a while ago and forgot about it pretty quickly. Then I got a slip in the mail saying I had a parcel to pick up and I was mightily confused since I wasn’t waiting on any packages. My bf picked the parcel up from the PO on Friday and says “Its pretty heavy what is it?”. Turns out, they sent me a big box of samples with a letter saying to share them. So share I will. It’s only fair ;-)

As for my opinions on the products. I tried them last night and this morning and they’re not too bad. They’re designed to be okay for sensitive skin which is a plus. My skin goes spazzo at the weirdest things and these have no perfumes or colours which is a good start. The eye-makeup remover did a pretty good job of getting rid of my gel eyeliner and mascara leaving no panda eyes in the morning. It’s not one of those oil based ones either. The moisturiser was light and quite nice but overall, I don’t think I’ll be replacing my Aesop with it as yet. Time will tell!

There it is – get your comments in and I will draw the winner in a week from now, on Saturday the 16th of April.

EDIT: Oh and don’t worry, I won’t be “selling out” on this blog hehe. I have extreme reservations about any kind of advertising – hence why I don’t have any ads here. This won’t become a frequent feature on here. Even now I’m having doubts about posting this as I don’t want people to think I’ll spruik anything just because I got it for free. Hmm…thoughts? Do you guys mind me posting this?

Sewing – Khaki Skirt

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Hi All

Yay I have a sewing post for you!

I am so behind. But this is the only thing I’ve been fairly pleased with since I made the charcoal version of this skirt.

khaki-skirt-web-01

I made some adjustments to the pattern, most of which were successful but I still have some things to learn!

Here is what I did:

  • Moved the front darts in closer together.
  • Shortened the final length by maybe an inch. I did this by folding the pattern in two places – one inch near the hip and one just above the kick-pleat.
  • Narrowed the hips
  • Gave it a tinier bit more of a ‘wiggle’ shape
  • Lengthened the strip I used for the waistband so there is more of an overlap for securing the skirt. I used a largish snap fastener and a hook and eye designed for pants and skirts (so its quite a bit bigger than the tiny ones you get on dresses).

Puss squirming in my arms - look at those paws!

There’s a few things I think still need tweaking. Both to do with my sewing skills and with fitting:

  • I went a bit crazy with narrowing the hip and I think that’s why the skirt bunches at my waist. It’s annoying how much the final fit changes once you put the waistband in!
  • Instead of taking so much out of the hip, I should have taken that wiggle shape thing further and narrowed the bottom of the skirt more so it cuts in closer to my knees. I really want a wiggle skirt!
  • I could still learn a bit about tidying up finishes around the closures. I’m getting better at the hand sewing and this one is fairly neat but could be neater.

That's Boofy mid meow "Mowowowoowwowwwww" he says

I really love this pattern – even though it’s only the bottom of a dress pattern. It’s so quick to make and looks pretty good. I like the length a lot – just at the knee. A fraction more flattering than just above the knee.
I find that skirts that hit above the knee tend to throw out the proportions of an outfit. With a blouse and high-waist skirt combo, the skirt needs to be proportionately longer than the blouse section. Roughly the Golden Mean ;-) It’s just more pleasing to the eye hehee.

I can't get over his expressions - always priceless!

Hmm – what else… ah yes, the fabric. This is an awesome, thick khaki cotton I found at the Salvos. There’s tons of it left and I shall one day hope to make a blazer for this one too. Or I will turn the remainder into a wiggle dress. Maybe I have enough for both (there’s heaps!).
I underlined it with some white sheet. The same as I used for the pastel striped dress. The zipper is brown and so is the hem tape I used. Not that you see that but it makes me feel a little calmer knowing the insides coordinate. It’s the same kind of happiness a girl gets from knowing she’s wearing some nice frillies under her dress ;-)

Oooh cheeky!

Haha.

ANYWAY – Time to wrap it up. I have so much more to say about sewing than about drawing! Art speaks for itself a little better ;-) ….

So I also have some fun stuff…
Tomorrow I will post another GIVEAWAY! Just a mini one! My blog is no way going to turn into an ad machine, but I received some skincare products to sample as part of a promo company I’ve signed up to. Cos I like free stuff. Who doesn’t like free stuff!? They gave me a whole bunch of decent sized samples with the encouragement to give them to friends. So why not share the lurrrve? More details to come ;-)

Ciao peeps and enjoy your weekend! :-D
