Hiiiii :-D

Today’s random sketches – drawn on the train. No referencing peeps here. Except the dude with the hair hehe.
Nothing finished for you lately cos I’m workin on stuff. I can’t show you half a drawing as I swear it’s a curse…I’m already a bit over that drawing of the secret blogger. But I really should finish it. When I’m done with this weeks CHOW (theme is Atlantian Anarchist – yeh that’s right).

A couple of dodgy sketches

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Hi All!

Feeling a bit better lately. Got over being sick in about 4 days – blergh – reminds me how much I hate being sick!

So I’m picking things up again. Only a few sketches here and there and some more work on the preview I showed you all before.
They’re pretty crap but meh….Just some warm ups.

Other news….We had a HUGE storm here on Saturday. I saw it coming on the weather radar but wasn’t expecting hail. Stones the size of golf balls!! I was scared our skylight was going to break in. The sound was incredible and the cats where running around freaking out like it was Armageddon. The hail built up in our courtyard as we are on the bottom of a small hill and the drains were way too full to contain all the downpour. I was ready with towels in case the water came high enough to reach the door. They didn’t – but only just…we were only about 1cm off! It looked like snow outside. The roof leaked a bit too but no major damage. All my sad little tomatoes which had only just started growing properly are now completely obliterated! Boo! The lemon tree survived though thank goodness.
So that was our storm – the city was in chaos with train stations shut down and many buildings closed because of leaking or even caved in roofs. Fire engines were screaming around everywhere. I hope no one was seriously hurt!

Well – back to playing around. Hope you’ve had a good weekend!

Quick sketch post.

Only a few small things for today. Waiting to hear back from my client about some art I submitted and then I will show you all :-D

Some train sketches. Always seem to notice the hair and headwear a person has.

And a drawing of a vintage coat. Love the cut! If only I could find something like this for winter. Yes I am already thinking about the colder months. It doesn’t take me long to get bored of the season.

My new computer should hopefully arrive next week so you will ALL know about it when that gets here hehe.

The DareDevil is finally printed

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Happy Aussie Day guys! Hope you’re all suitably relaxing and possibly downing a beer or three. Absolute stunner of a day here in Melbs too. Yeah!

Not doing much here ourselves. Just listening to tunes and chillin out. I made double choc pancakes for breakfast. Yummo. Might go for a ride later also.

Onto some art stuff…..
I finally got the labels printed for my parent’s palinka (the Hungarian name for grappa)….45% alcohol made out of the fermented grape skins left after the pressing. You can make it out of pretty much any fruit though – some people use pears or plums too. Whatever you have an excess of!
There’s two bottle sizes…375ml and 100ml…the label is a bit squeezy on the smallest one…so Mum, if you want the label a bit smaller I can send some over because I still have plenty of paper. :-D
It turned out pretty good I think. Looks great against our exposed brick wall and stainless steel bench (I still LOVE my house so much). That’s some great reflection there that you just can’t fake in Photoshop! Hehehe.

Other stuff….I went to my first Melbourne Gra-fight Club meet with the local ConceptArt peeps on Sunday. We bum around in town for a few hours sketching people we see. Lots of lessons to be learnt and cool people to hang with. Here are the results. Pretty blah but they get better as I started getting the hang of the process.

The only one I really like is the profile of the guy with the glasses and the grandpa hat.

And finally something a bit prettier….A cute corset by Maya Hansen – soooo many pretty corsets. Want!! Oh and excuse the deformed head. I suck. ;-)

Some 3D to bring the colour

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Hi again!
Since there hasn’t been many colour drawings of late around these parts, I thought I would show you some of the 3D stuff I’ve been doing for work. It’s nothing flash – I am no skilled 3D artist! I can barely animate let alone do character rigging or anything complicated like that.
But what I can do is kinda fun! The modelling is the best bit…..with rendering you get kind of tired of the:
*fiddle fiddle*
F9 (render frame)
Oh shoot!!
*tweak tweak*
F9
Repeat.

If you want to know more about the process, I explained it briefly here. :-D
These are some trays we needed to show off to our US offices. They wanted to see what we can do when it comes to 3D because many of them are still skeptical over there as to what it can actually benefit the company and our clients. To me, it’s logical. Why spend thousands of dollars doing research and development for new packaging without getting a few 3D mockups first (without even the need for high precision that you get from CAD software), just for a visual? It usually doesn’t cost more than an art concept and we can create literally anything the client wants to see. Then once they’re happy with the idea, get on to the nitty gritty of CAD drawings and the actual R&D (scuse any wrong terminology, I know nothing about the engineering side!!).

Sooo….we wanted to show a number of trays with different print methods and packaging variants. Behold. ;-)

Some art for a change…

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Team CHOW is back in full swing. REALLY pushing it for time. A bit over ten days to pull two finished pieces out of my butt??? WORK HARD ESZ!!!

Not to mention my work for others which I am pottering away on.
Sooo here’s the run down of the last couple of days. I have been sketching quite a bit but today was the only day where I really got anywhere. First….what I started on the train. Wish they wouldn’t sway around so much – hard to keep the pencil straight when drawing tiny lines.

Sketch from a few days ago for one of my clients….For a blog header. Kinda happy with this. Just a matter of getting around to doing the digital.

And finally some tests for Team CHOW. The Star. Poses referenced from a book lent off my workmate (Hi – see I AM drawing!! ;-P) I like most of this ‘cept the head. Ugh. Kind of needs clothes too.
starpose

Take 2. Much better (though I did draw this first hehe). The arm is a bit short and the head too big I know shuddup. I kind of like big heads though hehehehe. Anyways….I’m thinkin Hippy Boho Chick for The Star cos it’s meant to represent Aquarius and we’re supposed to be pretty free spirited yada yada. I just like flowing stuff – hair, clothes, jewelry etc. Could definitely use this for the final.
Dreading trying to draw this digitally. If only I could find $3K lying around somewhere…..

That’s all for now. Better get back to finishing off my other commission. :-D

Train observations and Boof

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

A few sketches from the train today. Not trying to be realistic because I can’t really sit staring at people too long. So these are drawn with only a quick glance to try and capture as much in my memory as possible, and then draw what I can.

A kid, some crows and a guy at one of the stations with a backpack. I’m not sure if he actually had a backpack – I only got to look as the train was pulling into the station and he got on a carriage behind me….I was more interested in his pose and his clothes. He looked kind of beat!

And this, drawn last night as my beautiful kitty Boof was sleeping. It’s great to have a living creature that I can draw from life! And he’s just too adorable when he sleeps – his face was all mooshed into the couch. Awwwww.
This took about 20 minutes.

Trying to be a bit more considerate with my lines. And build tone with lots of light strokes instead of fewer heavy ones. Probably best for all that fur too!
Oh man it is SO much easier drawing from life instead of a photo!!! I thought it was meant to be the other way round….but somehow I can understand the form better when I see it in 3D in front of me.

Sooooo…..in other news…..The boyfriend is working Saturday night again. I think I will continue my binge of Mad Men episodes. THE OUTFITS! Holy Cow. And maybe I will squeeze some drawing in. Oh and make some tiramisu….got a craving! Hehe.
Till then!
Bye!
