Horsies!

Hellooooo!
Hope you all had a great weekend! Was a ripper here in Melbourne. Mid 30′s both days and quite hot. Beer weather. Mmmm. Downed quite a few on Saturday let me tell you that. ;-) Our house was thoroughly warmed! Even the cops rocked up – so you know its a good party when they make an appearance. Teehee. Well we’re really not that wild – I think we just have uptight neighbours…considering it was barely even 10pm. Overreaction much?

So…Today’s sketches are to do with Concept Art’s Character of the Week (CHOW) comp. This week it’s all about Jousting in 2706 AD. Think futuristic steeds in zero gravity. Now I’m pretty hopeless at drawing armor and all that so I’ll see if I do alright. Might be a bit challenging but that is the point of CHOW. I drew some horses from reference off iStockPhoto and the last one is the one I think I will use. The first is really awesome and dynamic but would be exceedingly difficult to draw a rider on.

Thoughts on the last one?
I have to add a shield which will have a crest and/or sponsor on it. I can use the family crest for that :-)
Plus, draw a lance and all that biz. Hmm.

Well – I promise if I don’t get too shitty at this I will bring back some colour to this blog.

Muted Pony & some baking

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Muted shades in case you’re wondering. Heh. Me and my stupid post titles.

So this week has been a bit busy – but the weekend less so. I’ve spent my time doing some serious baking. Jonny wanted some more apple cake and I got three lovely meyer lemons from a colleague which needed to be added to a cake too. They both turned out pretty good – the meyer lemon loaf is cooling as I write. A small taste reveals that it is indeed delicious. Every part of the lemon was used – the peel is soaked in a syrup made from the juice and then chopped up and added to the batter. The remaining syrup is drizzled over the cooling cake making everything so lemony – mmmm. Tis good!

But enough about baking – today’s drawing is a (sort of) request from my brother’s girlfriend – she wanted me to draw a unicorn but I drew a horse instead. A quick one today – this took about 30mins. Drawn entirely using Corel Painter with no initial pencil sketch. I think if I do a sketch then things work out better – I’m not sure why. So this isn’t anything too flash.

This week I’ll be printing a couple of my recent drawings. See how they look and maybe setting up an Etsy shop with a few unframed prints. :-) That is provided our internet stops being SHAPED and I can send the full res file to myself to print at work. Nothing more frustrating that slow internet. Grr.  So keep an eye out for my shop yay!
