Life Drawing – 16th August

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Hi All,

The last life drawing class for quite some time – busy in the coming weeks and who knows when I’ll get to go next. We were learning about light this time so some of these were drawn in the dark!

This weekend was spent cleaning in preparation for my parents coming to visit soon. I scored some free tickets to the Taste of Melbourne and we’re going to go see the European Masters exhibtion at the NGV – It’s going to be a big weekend! In the meantime, the cleanup meant we rearranged our office area. Its always good when my desk gets a tidy as I feel that much more motivated to draw stuff  ;-) We put up some art we’ve had for a while but never displayed and my bf is in the process of getting some frames for a couple of his photo prints. I think I’ll print up some of my own drawings and get those framed too – believe it or not, I only have one of my paintings on display in our home!

And now that life drawing is finished for the time being, I’ve been pushing myself to get started on the digital again. I do have something in the works which is just a practice but I’m liking it. No previews until it’s finished as I have a terrible habit of never finishing those drawings that I show previews of.

Other exciting news -  I shall be taking part in a Melbourne Spring Fashion Week event as an assistant to a well known blogger. I won’t spill the secret just yet as I haven’t even had a fitting yet (!!) so I don’t want to babble too much. All I’ll say now is that it ties in very nicely to my insatiable obsession with vintage threads…. ;-)

So in the next few weeks you’ll probably get some different posts that aren’t ALL about drawing. Til then, seeya!

A bit of an absence

Sorry I haven’t posted much this week! My parents are over from Tasmania to visit so I’ve had little time to read or write blogs.

We went to see the Salvador Dali exhibition yesterday which was incredible. The guy was a genius! His work is so intricate and detailed – even in his sketches he would have used the teeniest tiniest pen nib and sharpest of sharpest pencils. I loved his jewelry too. Wow. It’s on til the 4th of October so if you’re in Melbourne, get yourself down to the NGV before it’s too late!

We also had a chance to finally check out Journal Canteen. I wish they were open weekends! The food was so delicious. I had chicken livers. Ew I hear you say! Fear not, they were yummy! And tender mmm. Dad had the veal shank which also practically fell off the bone and Mum and Jonny had the lasagne.

I bought Mum a fancy new digital camera. A bright red little Canon Ixus. Red cos it goes faster. Hehehe. Its so very tiny and cool. Mum’s old camera was bought back in the days they when digital was the new fangled thing and it was a wonder at a whopping 2 megapixel! Haha. How times have changed. Now Mum marvels that she can fit 20,000 2MB photos on an 8GB card – whereas on her old one she could only fit 10. It was about time she got an upgrade :-D

Dad also got a pair of shoes for Fathers day. Dad is really hard to buy for as he really doesn’t have any ‘hobbies’ like golf or football. So I’m glad I could get him something he liked!

Now I can’t leave you with nothing to look at so here is the sketch I drew the other day. This will be what I will work on next week to get finished for you all :-) I’m itching to finish it actually! But Sunday I think I will dedicate to baking and writing a DS game review. So it will have to be Monday I think!

Oh and last week I had time to pop into Biba Academy to make my hair just that *little* bit more red! Teehee. It looks bloody awesome now! Very very bright. Yay! Soooo happy with it!
Anyways seeya next week! Hope everyone’s having a fantastic weekend!
