Life Drawing June 28th

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Hi Everyone!
Another session of life drawing all done and dusted for the week – and yes I’m only getting this to you on a Thursday! Busy busy week! Work is insanely mad at the moment – the pile of jobs just doesn’t seem to get any smaller even though I’m there from 7am to 5pm every day.

Onto the drawing then….LOTS more progress this week – can’t believe how much I’m loving the class right now. I churned out a heap (this is only a few) and even managed to knock out some decent contour drawings.

We’ll start from the beginning – a whole bunch of 2 minute and then 1 minute poses to loosen up:
28th-june-1

28th-june-2

28th-june-4 28th-june-5

Then onto the contours….They look way different and while line is fun, I think I prefer shading…
28th-june-6 28th-june-7

28th-june-8 28th-june-9
^^^^^^
I’m quite proud of the one on the right :-D

And then the last two poses went for 15mins and then 20mins (or something like that, the last one was long)….Plenty of time to really work on light and shade. Love drawing like this the most as its all tone and I dont have to worry about a perfect line, instead I just kind of pick out the form from the paper. Hard to explain, but thats what it feels like – more like sculpting I guess?

And this one – worked on that knee for quite a while :-D

Until next time then peeps ;-)

Quick Figures #3

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Hi!!
Still struggling…..well….Not drawing very often. And sticking to these figure studies. Life drawing is awesome – Still haven’t got round to trying to photograph the last few weeks worth in daylight though.
Yes I suck.
Poor neglected bloggy…
Sorry for the lack of interesting content. Thanks for sticking around if you’re still reading! ;-)

25th May figures
Further attempts at shading. Getting there. The classes are helping me see tone better. And structure – all those underlying bones and how things connect, like in the knees and wrists. Ankles are hard though! Goddamn FEET.
Till next time….

Quick figures #2 – Linework

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Howdy!
More quick figures from The Figure in Motion….
Need to somehow get myself back into the digital colour don’t I? Not sure what is going on there….in a bit of a funk lately. I guess it’s okay to just focus on the figure and anatomy for a while…..

Anyway, I kind of like these…quite loose and quick and they don’t look hideous.

My brother and his girlfriend are visiting from Tassie this weekend. We’ve done quite a bit of shopping and checked out the Eureka Skydeck and “Edge Experience” – where they stick you in a glass box attached to the building and proceed to hang you out over 280m of nothing with only 4cm of glass below your feet. Sound scary??? Well it was cool, not so scary…..But worth doing.
Hmm that is all the news I have for you right now….Still haven’t got round to taking pics of my latest life drawing class. Until then….bye!

Life Drawing May 3rd

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Hi!
‘Tis about time I posted these. Friday and I’m showing you Monday’s work.
Terrible quality pics – I’m sorry I just cant get these right! I think next time I will have to go to the trouble of scanning them and stitching them together in PS.

Getting better! Things I need to work on:
* Finishing in time!!! Five minutes should be enough to get the basic form down. Work faster Esz!!
* PROPORTION. As the teach keeps telling us – take a step back and analyse!
* Detail. Knowing which bits to focus on and when.

(in chronological order from the beginning of the night to the final pose)
20mins warm up – 2mins each hands & feet

5mins poses
050610_0021 050610_0022
050610_0023 050610_0025

050610_0026 050610_0027

050610_0028 050610_0029

And these last two were 10mins a piece:

Last one is hard!!

050610_0031

(oh my god these photos are BAD!!! So sorry!)

The model was good – he knew what he was doing and brought along his own props like a bow which helps show muscle tone.
Drawing a man is tricky! Where there is usually curves and smooth lines on a woman it’s all boxes and no definition on a man (waist and hips argh!)

But – ze classes are seriously awesome and our teacher is great. The gallery plans to expand on things by offering intermediate lessons after this course is up, along with perspective and spacial drawing on Tuesdays. Now that’s another thing I haven’t even touched on! So depending on time and budget constraints, I wouldn’t mind doing some of Tuesday’s classes also.

Tomorrow I plan on making a start on a brochure for my parents’ winery – and doing some sketching. Melbourne has finally decided to let winter settle in and staying inside drawing is mighty appealing. That said, I may become desperate for a coffee and I have overdue library books that need returning.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!
:-D

Poses, pinups and unplugged

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I’ve been a bad blogger again! Drawing so much and neglecting to post. Eep.

The week has been busy too with the Freelancer Unplugged event last night. We were up til 12 which is late late late and today I’m tired. Was a super duper event – got to meet lots of inspirational and creative people. Check out the site if you do any kind of work that could remotely be called freelancing :-) And if you’re in Melbourne, stay tuned for more meetups!
What was it you ask? Well, a casual get together with a panel of four different freelancers talking about the biz. A good chance to network and find out about what it means to go work as a freelancer. Yay!

Now, on to the drawing. I’ve got two sketches for you today. First is a pose or two for the Concept Art CHOW – Steampunk Harem. What a combination! I’m cutting it fine but I really want to finish something this week. Deadline is Monday US time so if I’m studious on the weekend I might just make it.
The first few are some dodgy ones without reference…I like the face and the other one is trying to do some steampunk details.

Then with a reference from a photo. Head is a bit small though. Much more anatomically correct!

And finally, the tattoo I need finished TOMORROW. I actually like this sketch. Third time lucky eh. Took that many goes to get it looking decent. Now the tricky part of drawing clothes and stuff.

There! Now back to drawing. And then sleep.

Not *quite* Safe for Work

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Mebbe. If your boss objects to a bit of graphite drawn nip. LOL. ;-)
Today’s sketches (haven’t done nearly as much as I should!!) taken from PoseSpace. Took about 10 minutes each. Fun fun. I like drawing curves.

sketch from PoseSpace
two girls

I like the last two the best. Spent a bit more time getting the lines and shadows right. Proportions are okay – except for the girl leaning backwards, I think her front leg is a bit off – knees are hard to draw! They’re just such shapeless lumps – but so crucial to the form of the body.
Wish I could draw from life but with no money to go to life drawing classes and the lack of availability of people to pose for me I guess photos will have to do for now. When my paycheck comes I will be hitting Book Depository (forget Amazon!) for some recommended anatomy books. I like my Dynamic Anatomy book but there’s not enough female figures in there – just lots of beefcake men in contorted poses. Good if I wanted to do comics but not so much of the real core stuff like bone structure etc. Hmm.

Okay. Stuff I *really* need to work on:
Feet.
Hands.
CLOTHING.

Back to it then!
Ciao!
