Omg – posting on Christmas Day. Who’d've thought! Welll……I am waiting on the darling boyfriend to return from work. My lamb roast is in the oven (shit, that reminds me, I have to put the potatoes on!) and the dessert is setting in the fridge – Vanilla panna cotta with raspberry coulis. Mmmm.
So in the meantime I got to browsing Etsy…which lead me via some tangents to other vintage sites…..and spying a pretty pretty dress which was alas, sold. Damn! So I drew it instead. There I was thinking I’d be too lazy to draw over the Xmas break – but sometimes the urge to pick up a pencil is too strong and a drawing just happens.
Now, it’s hardly polished or anything fancy – but colour sketches always turn out nice enough to put on the blog. So here you go – something to look at while you’re trying to digest all that Christmas food and trying not to fall asleep. Heh

Hope you’re all having a good holiday! I am

Quick late night posting today…..
I just squeezed an entry for ConceptArt.org CHOW this week…the topic was Steampunk Harem. Mixing two conflicting styles. Ripper topic! So many entries. And I bit off WAY more than I could chew! The way I envisioned this was so different. I’ve learnt a lot from this exercise…mostly to plan even the tiniest details from the beginning. I wish I had more time…but I’m thoroughly over this…but I like one of my original sketches, so I might paint that in PS just for play and to see how I go.
Hope you like! Even though I am very MEH about it.

Night!

Hi All!
This week I will be getting my hair done. Red. The idea has been floating in the back of my mind for quite some time now…and I’ve made a few attempts to do the colouring myself. But after a few unsuccessful attempts, I’m going to the pros.
What finally cemented the idea was stumbling across this wonderful photo on wedding blog, Snippet and Ink (no….there are no pending marriages around here, I just like the dresses teehehe). What an awesome bride! How cool to have hair like that! It’s the perfect colour. I loved this pose so much that I had to draw it straight away. Of course my rendition is quite different. But you get the idea.
This:

Became this:

I’m really liking ‘eyes shut’ kind of poses right now. I like the serenity and calm in general. Something that can be hard to draw!
SO…Thursday my hair will be red. Hopefully just this colour. Or maybe a shade darker. I can’t wait! I promise you will have photos!
Ciao!

Hello!
Another drawing for you all. This one took a bit longer. About 6 hours or more. Lost count. Not sure if I’m 100% happy with it. Seems I get bored of a drawing much too quickly and I lose interest in finishing it. But I struggled through with this one. A little Paris Hilton inspired??? Teehee
Guess I’m still not happy with my drawing skills. Or I haven’t perfected my technique. I think I really need to develop stuff more. More details and a story behind the image. Though I do get over stuff very quickly. It’s always been my downfall – there’s always a new and better idea that I need to get out.
Sometimes it feels like my hands let me down – I can sketch easily on paper but working on the computer can still be frustrating. It’s hard to get the lines right and I’m particularly fussy about lines! Converting them to vector would be the solution but then I find those lines too harsh! Think I really need to experiment more with different techniques.
Whinge whinge. Please excuse me. Just feeling incredibly critical of my own skills. *sigh*
Anyways – what do you think? (I’m not trying to host a pity party here either guys so be critical
)

A little close up…

Meh.

Ohmigod YAAaAAaaaY!!!
;-P
I got sick of the other one I posted two days ago. Wasn’t able to quite get the look I was after. So yesterday I referred to a sketch I did previously (the one in this post) and started from scratch…..

Much better!!
Can you see the similarities? It’s not quite the same.
I’d like to do a few more of these as a possible series to sell at some point.
What do you all think?
Technical details: Took me about 6 hours total using Painter IX.5 only.
And some little close ups…

Oh and news on the award nomination…I can relax for a little bit longer. Well not really. But the interviews are scheduled roughly around the end of June…So I’ve got a bit of time to get my folio together. Yay! And the award night will be in early July I do believe.
Now I really really have to think about how I want to present my work. I don’t want to use a standard black portfolio…I want to make something. Use some nice paper and present it in a unique way. Hmmm…..
And I don’t even have a portfolio online! I am getting increasingly frustrated at my lack of web design knowledge. I can fiddle with Fireworks and that’s about it. I don’t know any code and I don’t know if I should. And I’m too tight to pay someone to design anything. Also partly to do with the fact I feel I need to manage ALL creative aspects myself. Is that crazy talk?
Do other artists/designers feel this way? Is it justified? Thoughts?
Anyways. My boyfriend is hassling me to watch a movie. Signing off for the weekend!
