Taste of Melbourne 2010 (pic HEAVY)

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Hi All!

No drawing for you this week – folks are down and its been busy-busy here.  Today we went to the Taste of Melbourne….photos aren’t as good as last year – the difference between a point-&-shoot and a super DSLR is big – but I’d have to say the event was a lot better. Overall much better organised and laid out. It was easier to navigate and they had quite a lot of things upstairs whereas last year it was only extra seating. Speaking of seating, it was much easier to get a table to park at – or eat standing at one of the astroturf covered box things ;-)

So here’s some silly photos and some of the foods I nommed.

Starting off with some alcohol – nice ;-) (Smirnoff vodka cranberry things. Shuddup!)

Taste of Melb 2010

Pistachio panna cotta & caramel salted popcorn from Sarti. Tasty and not too sweet

Taste of Melb 2010

Crowd shot – it was busy but not unbearably so. You never had to wait long to get your hands on some yums. This was taken at the start when the doors had only just opened.

Taste of Melb 2010

Yellow curry of wagyu beef w/ cucumber relish from Longrain. This was tasty indeed. And a very generous portion.

Taste of Melb 2010

Pork BELLEH!! Omg. With peas, wild sorrel coulis, purple potato and fromage frais from Embrasse. This was super yum but probably could have had a dash more seasoning in the pork crumb. But gee, I really love pork belleh (scuse my horrid shiny thumb – I’d just got a free hand treatment thingo which left moisturiser on my hands)

Taste of Melb 2010

Dad making a difficult decision….

Taste of Melb 2010

Smoked duck, apple & walnut rillettes from Libertine. Interesting. Toasts where a bit too crispy but the flavours were nice.

Taste of Melb 2010

Truffle rabbit agnolotti w/ game consomme again from Libertine. This was the better dish of the two.

Taste of Melb 2010

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. I retract my earlier judgment that B&Js aint all that….Guess I just tried a dud flavour the first time cos this was YUM!! Phish Food (the choc one) was a clear winner with choc bits, caramel AND marshmallow. *drool*

Taste of Melb 2010

Get in my belleh!!! ;-)

Taste of Melb 2010

Blurry photo of vanilla panna cotta w/ blood orange jelly from Mr Wolf. Better than the pistachio one :-D

Taste of Melb 2010

Spicy meatballs w/ freekah, parsley salad & Turkish bread from The European. Tangy and delicious and filling too.

Taste of Melb 2010

Derp

Taste of Melb 2010

And then we did some wine tasting. Yes, I drank all that. The Mr didn’t finish his share. Pussy ;-)

Taste of Melb 2010

And to finish off with some sweets – from Sweet Treats (I think that’s what they were called). Had some Crowns left. I have such a big dumb head. Heh.

Taste of Melb 2010

Thanks go to Innocent Bystander and Agenda Melbourne for my tickets. It was definitely a great bonus not having to pay for entry as I really think the price for it is a bit too high.

Hopefully my next post will be drawing related….

Seeya round!

Life Drawing – 16th August

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Hi All,

The last life drawing class for quite some time – busy in the coming weeks and who knows when I’ll get to go next. We were learning about light this time so some of these were drawn in the dark!

P1030885 P1030884

P1030882 P1030883

P1030880 P1030881

P1030879 P1030878

This weekend was spent cleaning in preparation for my parents coming to visit soon. I scored some free tickets to the Taste of Melbourne and we’re going to go see the European Masters exhibtion at the NGV – It’s going to be a big weekend! In the meantime, the cleanup meant we rearranged our office area. Its always good when my desk gets a tidy as I feel that much more motivated to draw stuff  ;-) We put up some art we’ve had for a while but never displayed and my bf is in the process of getting some frames for a couple of his photo prints. I think I’ll print up some of my own drawings and get those framed too – believe it or not, I only have one of my paintings on display in our home!

And now that life drawing is finished for the time being, I’ve been pushing myself to get started on the digital again. I do have something in the works which is just a practice but I’m liking it. No previews until it’s finished as I have a terrible habit of never finishing those drawings that I show previews of.

Other exciting news -  I shall be taking part in a Melbourne Spring Fashion Week event as an assistant to a well known blogger. I won’t spill the secret just yet as I haven’t even had a fitting yet (!!) so I don’t want to babble too much. All I’ll say now is that it ties in very nicely to my insatiable obsession with vintage threads…. ;-)

So in the next few weeks you’ll probably get some different posts that aren’t ALL about drawing. Til then, seeya!

Taste of Melbourne!

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Okay so I know I’m not a food blogger….but I do loooove food! So it was natural that I should go to the Taste of Melbourne this weekend :-D I dragged Jonny along and after the debacle of me leaving our tickets at home, we eventually made it to the Carlton Exhibition Hall. It was a lot less crowded than I thought – we turned up a bit past 12pm and there was no line to get in anymore.  There weren’t really lines for anything which was good!

I promptly set about stuffing my face. Joy! Jonny was telling me to slow down hehehe.  We spent about $80 on food and drinks which is a bit much – I know it wasn’t supposed to be a bargain event – but it was excellent to finally try some dishes from restaurants I don’t have the money to visit frequently!

We even got chatting to a bloke from one of the big alcamahol stands – seeing me dressed in my little green vintage dress and Jonny with his grandpa hat on, one of the first questions he asked was “Are you hotrodders?”!! LOL – well we’re not quite hotrodders but he was pretty spot on asking if we drove a VW. Turns out he’s got a fancy red hotrod of some sort. Sweet. Funny the people you meet.

Jonny snapped away with his flashy Canon 1DS Mark II and took these wonderful pics for me. You can see my cool dress too.

Here are the dishes we ate and some extra photos:
Me at Jaques Reymond
Making the first transaction at Jaques Reymond – I made a beeline for this stand as soon as I got there :-) I’m a total sucker for French food. Mmmm.

Jaques Reymond
Tempura of quail breast, tajine flavours, wipped persian fetta.
This was nice. A little bit small but the quail was very tender and juicy.

Jaques Reymond - 2
Martini of bittersweet chocolate, espresso jelly, & bourbon vanilla chantilly. Very very delicious. I could have eaten about 4 of these!!

Next I zoomed to Movida
Movida
Braised beef with Spanish paprika, saffron and potatoes. A lot like something my Mum would make – but with a dash more booze…it had a real wine/burgundy flavour to it.

Yummmmm
Nomnomnomnomnom

Drinks
We took a cocktail break….

Then it was off to Fifteen:
Fifteen Panna Cotta
Vanilla panna cotta with slow cooked quince from Fifteen. Absolutely devine! So creamy and vanilla-y :-D

At The Boathouse:
The Boathouse
Clotted cream mousse with ginger nut crumble. A bit rich and I really did scoff too many sweet things. Seemed like moussey, jelly, set stuff was the go for many of the desserts on offer. Not that I mind – I looooove stuff like that.

I finished with a limoncello and pineapple cocktail. Everyone was getting around with these because they looked fab. Another bit of too much richness for me…oh dear. Often my eyes are so much bigger than my stomach! Haha.
More booze
*buh*

Thanks again to Jonny and his wonderful photography. There really is nothing better than having a personal photographer on hand :-)

Oooh ooh and look at my haiiiiiirrrrr!!! Hehehe :-D

Well I hope everyone has had a fantastic weekend! I’m off back to cleaning in preparation for my parents coming to visit. Yay!
See you all sometime midweek :-D

Yoshi! For Art Jumble

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Hello everyone :-D

Today I have another quick creation for you. I thought it was about time I contributed something original to Art Jumble. It’s been a while since I posted anything there and I certainly haven’t come up with something new until now. Yoshi is definitely one of my favourite characters from the Mario crew. He’s just so cute! I love the noises he makes and it’s not uncommon to for me to start crying “bee pow” whenever the mood strikes me. Heh. So immature. LOL. I also love his little “Hnnnnnnnnnnnnn” he does when trying to jump higher than normal.

Gosh I am such a nerd.

Anyways, this barely took 20mins. I was drinking wine at the time and since my tummy is not very full and I am the world’s biggest lightweight, I am currently a little bit tipsy. Oh dear.
Also, still loving the new technique. Me thinks I will stick with it for a while.

Yoshi

On video games, I also have my fortnightly game review up on Cult-of-Pop. This time I’ve reviewed Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

This weekend has been rather quiet. I received two vintage skirts in the mail from Etsy which I LOVE. Can’t wait til spring! And also picked up my Taste of Melbourne tickets. Is anyone going?? I can’t wait!
